“Every film should have its own world, a logic and feel to it that expands beyond the exact image that the audience is seeing.”

Christopher Nolan on choosing his actors (x)

Films are subjective-what you like, what you don’t like. But the thing for me that is absolutely unifying is the idea that every time I go to the cinema and pay my money and sit down and watch a film go up on-screen, I want to feel that the people who made that film think it’s the best movie in the world, that they poured everything into it and they really love it. Whether or not I agree with what they’ve done, I want that effort there-I want that sincerity. And when you don’t feel it, that’s the only time I feel like I’m wasting my time at the movies. - Christopher Nolan

“Heath was bursting with creativity. It was in his every gesture. He once told me that he liked to wait between jobs until he was creatively hungry. Until he needed it again. He brought that attitude to our set every day. There aren’t many actors who can make you feel ashamed of how often you complain about doing the best job in the world. Heath was one of them.” - Christopher Nolan

“What drew me to Batman in the first place was Bruce Wayne’s story, and that he’s a real character whose story begins in childhood. He’s not a fully formed character like James Bond, so what we’re doing is following the journey of this guy from a child who goes through this horrible experience of becoming this extraordinary character. That, for me, became a three-part story. And obviously the third part becomes the ending of the guy’s story.” - Christopher Nolan

For me, it feels important to make films — even films that we go to for escapism and entertainment — that they in some way be moving us in a real way.

The first time I came to Grauman’s, I was 16. I came here as a tourist and I remember, very clearly, taking photographs of where people have written their names, and put their hands and feet. And I can say, in all honesty, it never, for one instant, occurred to me that I might actually be here doing that myself. So, it’s not even a dream come true because it’s not something I’ve ever dreamed about, it’s beyond that.

“I have been interested in dreams, really since I was a kid. I have always been fascinated by the idea that your mind, when you are asleep, can create a world in a dream and you are perceiving it as though it really existed.”
